Start Smart Stay Safe (S4) started as a collaborative three-year pilot project between the Calgary Police Service (CPS), Calgary Board of Education (CBE), Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD), and Mount Royal University’s Centre for Child Well-Being (MRU).
S4 resources:
- Connect to Alberta Education Program of Studies
- Are a strengths-based approach to building resilience in children and their families
- Engage families with similar messaging and activities that bring S4 into the home
S4 provides an opportunity for CPS to support the school community in a meaningful way and to help children and families see the role of police as a positive community support.
S4 is rooted in the belief that children who are aware of their personal strengths and relationships will become more resilient and better able to navigate challenging situations like substance abuse, negative peer groups, and victimization.
